The Cycle of Life
When the sun sets beyond the land or the sea and darkness arrives, people rest.
At night, we sleep to rest our bodies and minds.
When the sun rises again from the land or the sea and begins to illuminate the world, people begin to move.
In Japan, we have the four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—through which the cycle of life continues to turn.
We rest in winter, sprout in spring, grow in summer, and bear fruit in autumn.
Rest stores strength.
Rest heals.
Rest protects life.
Let your thoughts rest.
Let your emotions rest.
Let your body rest.
Let everything become still.
Never neglect rest.
Within each day, create your own small cycle of the seasons—
Awaken like spring, prepare like early summer, move like high summer, harvest the fruit of your day like autumn, and then rest fully like winter.
By gathering your strength and restoring your balance,
You can grow and flourish naturally through the greater cycles of life.
